Some Reasons Why People Snore

Believe it or not, all of us snore a little. This happens when the muscles and tissue in our throat relax while we are sleeping and air passes over with every breathe we take. The intensity however varies from person to person. Usually, the more tissue and the flabbier it is will result in louder snoring.

A lot of snoring is intermittent and sometimes does not happen at all.  Louder snoring may require lifestyle changes or medication to effectively stop. The reason why people snore loudly is often a restriction in the nasal passages.  This restriction causes air to pass over the relaxed muscles quicker causing a louder noise.  Some people can find relief from this type of snoring with nasal strips.

Obesity is one of the major causes of loud snoring. Overweight people can snore louder and more frequently because they have a harder time breathing while lying down, and the labored breath moving over the relaxed muscles resulting in the same effect as the congested snorer.

Even some skinny people can have some extra tissue in the throat.  This access tissue makes for a larger area in which the vibrations to occur.  Sometimes surgery is necessary to remove the extra tissue which is causing the snoring.

Remedies to Prevent Snoring

Light snoring can be handled with nasal strips, nasal sprays, or an herbal remedy to prevent snoring.  Additionally sometimes something as simple as lying on ones side instead of back can prevent snoring.

Of course, any serious snoring should be discussed with a doctor.  Sleep apnea is a potentially life threatening condition which affects people in their sleep and prevents them from breathing normally. Sleep apnea as the reason why a person snores will often need to be treated with medication and some changes in sleeping routines to limit snoring and hopefully helping with the problem.
